Our vitrigraph kilns are for glass artists ready to make their own custom stringers, streamers, and murrine instead of relying on pre-made supplies. A vitrigraph kiln uses a bottom-flow design with a small floor opening, letting you pull a continuous stream of molten glass to whatever diameter and color combination your work calls for. We carry compact, studio-ready setups from Olympic, Jen-Ken, Evenheat, and Hot-Shot — with the precision controllers needed to dial in the exact viscosity for clean pulls.

Key Advantages

  • Built for the pull — bottom-flow architecture with a floor opening designed for safe, controlled molten-glass drops.
  • Find the viscosity sweet spot — programmable digital controllers let you nail repeatable stringers, cane, and murrine.
  • Compact & plug-in — most run on standard 120V household power, so a vitrigraph station fits almost any studio.
  • Lift options available — a powered vitrigraph lift makes long pulls smooth and consistent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is vitrigraph?
Vitrigraph is a technique where you melt glass in a pot or stack set over an opening in the kiln floor, then pull the molten glass downward into long stringers, cane, or murrine. By controlling temperature (and therefore viscosity) and pull speed, you get threads in the diameters and color combinations you want — far beyond what pre-made supplies offer.
What makes a vitrigraph kiln different?
The defining feature is a hole in the floor and a design that supports a pot or stack above it, so glass can flow down and out. It also needs a precise controller to hold the right viscosity for a clean, steady pull. A regular fusing kiln doesn't have the floor opening.
Do I need a lift?
Not strictly — many artists pull by hand — but a powered vitrigraph lift gives a smooth, consistent descent, which makes for more even stringers and longer pulls without hand fatigue. The VitriLift is an affordable add-on.
Can a vitrigraph kiln also fuse?
Some compact models (like the Evenheat V8) double as small fusing kilns, while others are dedicated to pulling. If you want one kiln for both, tell us and we'll point you to a model that does double duty.
