Factory Refurbished Unit

This listing is for a factory refurbished unit, ships when marked in-stock. Refurbishments are done by the same Jen-Ken technicians who built the kiln originally. Units may have small cosmetic defects and are sold as-is (not returnable for cosmetic concerns), but every unit is fully tested, working, and backed by the same Jen-Ken manufacturer warranty as a new kiln. Real savings, same performance.

A 120V Plug-In Ceramic Kiln for Cone 04-06. Perfect for Hobbyists, Test Firings, and Dual Glass Use.

The AF3C 11/9 is a compact ceramic kiln built around a simple idea: a real, working ceramic kiln that runs on a standard household outlet. With an 11" x 9" interior and 0.5 cubic feet of working space, it's right-sized for new ceramic hobbyists, small ceramic pieces, test firings, and the kind of design iteration that's painful to do in a big production kiln.

It fires up to 2100°F, which puts it solidly in the cone 04 to cone 06 low-fire range, the sweet spot for earthenware, low-fire stoneware, and the underglazes and bright-color glazes that thrive at those temperatures. The kiln is controlled by the Orton AF3C controller, which ships with easy-to-use Cone Fire programs already built in. New ceramicists can fire their first piece without ever writing a custom program from scratch.

Here's a useful bonus: the AF3C 11/9 can also be used for fusing and slumping glass. The 2100°F ceiling and 0.5 cu ft chamber are more than enough for small fusing and slumping work, which makes this a genuine dual-purpose kiln. One purchase, two crafts.

Included with every order

Stand, Orton AF3C controller with built-in Cone Fire programs, and the manual. Free shipping on standard orders, and we'll match or beat any competitor's price online.

Important: Electrical Setup

This kiln runs on a standard 120V outlet at 15A, but to get the most out of it Jen-Ken recommends running it on a dedicated 20A circuit with a full 120V supply (not 110V or 115V). On older or shared circuits with voltage drops, you'll see longer firing times and reduced performance. If you're not sure what your outlet provides, give us a call before ordering.

Who Is This Kiln For?

The AF3C 11/9 is built for a clear set of buyers. Here's how to tell if it's right for you.

✓ New ceramic hobbyists getting started

Pre-loaded Cone Fire programs, a standard 120V outlet, and a real ceramic kiln chamber. Everything you need to fire your first piece without the cost or complexity of a larger production kiln.

✓ Established ceramicists who need a test kiln

Testing a new glaze recipe? Refining a design before committing it to a full firing? Doing it in a small dedicated test kiln means you can iterate quickly without tying up your production kiln for a single piece.

✓ Mixed-media artists who work in clay and glass

2100°F covers low-fire ceramics and gives you all the headroom you need for glass fusing and slumping. One kiln, both materials, one outlet.

✓ Artists with limited electrical access

Apartments, classrooms, basements, garages. If you have a standard 120V outlet (ideally on a dedicated 20A circuit), you can run this kiln without electrical work.

The standard AF3C controller is a no-frills 3-key unit that gets the job done. If you want more flexibility, you can upgrade at checkout to the Orton AutoFire 12-Key, the Orton AutoFire Slide touchscreen, or the top-of-line TAP Smart Touchscreen with Wi-Fi. For a kiln you'll fire often, the Solid State Relay (SSR) is also worth a look since it gives you tighter temperature control, longer element life, and quieter operation.
