A Reliable Working Potter's Kiln in 5.76 Cubic Feet
The Jen-Ken AF 2422 is a straightforward, reliable ceramic kiln built for working potters who need real capacity and dependable cone 8 firing without paying for features they don't need. The interior is 24" wide by 22" deep with 5.76 cubic feet of capacity, sized right for everyday studio work. Big enough for full sized vessels, batches of mugs and bowls, sculptural pieces, and student work. Small enough to fit comfortably in most studios without dominating the space.
The kiln fires up to 2300°F (Cone 8), which covers earthenware, low and mid fire stoneware, glaze work, and bisque firings. Standard 240V at 42 amps on a NEMA 6-50 plug, 8,640 watts. Single phase, no special electrical needed.
One of the things that makes the AF 2422 a genuinely useful kiln is the digital display, which shows you exactly where the firing is at all times. Temperature, time elapsed, and the cost of the firing all visible while it runs. For a working potter watching margins, that's real data worth having.
Included with every order
A heavy duty stand sized for this kiln, the full operator manual, a 2 year limited warranty through Jen-Ken, and free freight shipping to the US Lower 48.
Upgrade to 3" brick at checkout
The standard build uses 2.5" firebrick. Upgrading to 3" brick at order time gives you better heat retention, longer firings, and reduced stress on the elements. Worth considering if you fire often or run long schedules.
Who Is This Kiln For?
The AF 2422 is built for a specific kind of potter. Here's how to tell if that's you.
✓ Working potters firing weekly
5.76 cu ft is the right size for serious studio production without committing to a large production kiln. Fits a working schedule of mugs, bowls, vessels, and small sculptural work.
✓ Home studios scaling up to real production
If you've outgrown a smaller hobby kiln and you're ready for a real cone 8 working kiln, this is the natural step up without paying for production scale capacity.
✓ Classroom and community studio programs
Reliable cone 8 capability and enough room for a class load of student pieces. Solid digital display means clear readouts for teaching and demonstration.
✓ Potters who want reliable basics, not extras
If you don't need Mega Coil construction or extra features, the AF 2422 gives you proven Jen-Ken build quality at a friendlier price point.
You'll pick your digital controller at checkout. The Orton AutoFire 12 Key handles ceramic cone programs and custom firings with up to 4 stored profiles. The AutoFire Slide adds a touchscreen and stores 35 firing schedules, useful when you're running varied programs. And the TAP Smart Controller with Wi Fi lets you run firings from your phone or tablet, with virtually unlimited program storage.
