A 24" x 31" Ceramic Kiln That Fires to Cone 10. Built for Real Production.
The Jen-Ken AF2431 is a serious ceramic kiln for studios that fire often and fire big. With 24" wide by 31" deep of interior space and 8.11 cubic feet of capacity, it has the room to stack shelves of cups, plates, vases, and sculptural work in a single load. And with a max temperature of 2300°F, you've got headroom for the full range of ceramic work, from low-fire bisque all the way through cone 10 stoneware and porcelain.
The chamber is built from high-grade rigidified fiber, which keeps the kiln firm and durable over years of heavy use. The on-board temperature display keeps you informed throughout the firing, showing where you are in the schedule, how long the firing has run, the peak temperature reached, and even the estimated firing cost. It's the kind of feedback that makes diagnosing a firing, or quoting a commission, a lot easier.
The AF2431 ships standard with the Orton AutoFire 12-Key controller, a dependable P-I-D controller that holds up to 4 custom programs and recovers from power loss mid-firing. If you want preset cone programs, more storage, or remote control, you can upgrade at checkout to the Orton AutoFire Slide touchscreen or the TAP Smart Touchscreen with Wi-Fi.
Included with every order
Stationary stand built for the kiln's weight and shape, Orton AutoFire 12-Key controller with temperature and firing-cost display, and the manual. We strongly recommend adding the furniture kit at checkout, since firing directly on the kiln floor isn't good for the kiln or your work.
Who Is This Kiln For?
The AF2431 is built for ceramic artists who need real capacity and real temperature range. Here's how to tell if that's you.
✓ Production potters and functional ware makers
8.11 cubic feet and 31" of depth means you can fire a full run of mugs, bowls, or plates in one load. Fewer firings, faster turnaround, more time at the wheel.
✓ Cone 10 stoneware and porcelain artists
2300°F maximum gives you real headroom for high-fire work. Cone 10 firings don't strain this kiln the way they would a lower-rated one, which means longer element life over time.
✓ Studio classrooms and teaching spaces
Big enough to fire a whole class of student work in one load, which keeps your firing schedule predictable and your students' pieces coming back on time.
✓ Sculptors and tall-vessel makers
31" of vertical room handles tall sculptural work, large vases, and pieces that won't fit in a standard production kiln. Stack the shelves out and you've got the height to spare.
For a kiln of this size and temperature range, a few upgrades genuinely pay off. The Solid State Relay (SSR) gives you tighter temperature control, longer element life, and quieter cycling. The Orton Vent Master downdraft vent pulls toxic firing byproducts safely outside, improves chamber temperature uniformity, and extends element life through better airflow. And if you fire often or fire long high-fire schedules, the 3" brick upgrade (over the standard 2.5") improves heat retention and reduces stress on the elements during long climbs.
