Cone 8 Ceramics, Glass Casting, All in a Compact Home Studio Kiln

The Jen-Ken AF3C 15/9 is a rare combination. Most kilns that hit cone 8 (2300°F) are big production units that demand serious electrical and floor space. The AF3C 15/9 delivers that same temperature capability in a compact 15" x 9" chamber with 0.97 cubic feet of capacity, running on a friendly 240V / 15 amp circuit. That's the same amp draw as a standard household appliance, while giving you real cone 8 firing.

Even better, this is a genuinely versatile kiln. It handles pottery, ceramics, AND glass casting in one chamber. Ceramic artists get reliable cone 8 firings for stoneware, glaze work, and bisque. Glass casters get the 2300°F headroom needed for cast glass work that fusing kilns simply can't reach.

Like the rest of Jen-Ken's tabletop line, this kiln is built with full size kiln features: 2300°F hand selected refractory brick, large handles for moving, a 2 position lid prop for venting at high temperatures, and a protective lid coating. Compact size, but built like a working studio kiln.

Runs on 240V at 15 amps, 3,600 watts, with a NEMA 6-20 plug. The lowest amp draw for any cone 8 kiln in our catalog.

Heads up: NEMA 6-20 plug

This kiln uses a NEMA 6-20 plug, which is a 240V 20 amp outlet. It's less common than NEMA 6-50, but your electrician can install one easily. If you're not sure what your panel can support, give us a call and we'll help you figure out the right setup before you order.

Included with every order

A heavy duty stand sized for this kiln, the full operator manual, the AF3C Orton digital controller with pre-loaded cone fire programs, a 2 year limited warranty through Jen-Ken, and free shipping to the US Lower 48.

Who Is This Kiln For?

The AF3C 15/9 is built for a specific kind of artist. Here's how to tell if that's you.

✓ Multi discipline home artists working in ceramics and glass

If you do both pottery and cast glass, this is one kiln that does both well. No need for separate kilns and separate electrical for each discipline.

✓ Home studio potters wanting cone 8 capability

15 amps is the friendliest electrical of any cone 8 kiln we carry. Real stoneware firing capability that fits most residential panels without an upgrade.

✓ Glass casters who can't fit a full size casting kiln

2300°F gives you real glass casting capability in a compact kiln that fits in a corner of your studio. No need to commit to a full size 240V high amp setup.

✓ Jewelry makers, bead artists, and small batch ceramicists

0.97 cu ft is the right size for batches of pendants, beads, small vessels, jewelry components, and cast glass elements. Big enough to be useful, small enough to fit anywhere.

The AF3C 15/9 ships standard with the Orton AF3C controller, which comes pre-loaded with easy to use Cone Fire programs (a real benefit for ceramic firings). For more flexibility on custom schedules (especially useful if you're switching between ceramics and glass casting), upgrade at checkout to the AutoFire 12 Key, the touchscreen AutoFire Slide, or the TAP Smart Controller with Wi Fi.
