The Deep ProFusion 38: For Slumping and Casting Work That Needs Vertical Room
The Jen-Ken ProFusion 38 Deep is the same big idea as our standard ProFusion 38, but built with extra vertical room for deeper work. Interior is 26" wide by 38" long by 16" deep, with 9.15 cubic feet of capacity. That's 2 extra inches of depth over the standard ProFusion 38, which makes a real difference when you're slumping into deeper molds, draping over taller forms, or doing casting work that needs room for pour reservoirs.
It keeps everything the ProFusion line is known for. The kiln ships with a 25" x 37" rigid fiber shelf. Drop it onto the floor of the kiln and you've got an all fiber interior, top to bottom. That means fast ramps, fast cooldowns, and the ability to run multiple firings a day on smaller work. Two firings a day is genuinely possible for production studios, and for teaching studios the kiln is back to near room temperature by the next morning. Big enough for your deeper pieces, fast enough for everything else.
The elements are encased in quartz tubes and hang just below the lid for maximum radiant heat right where the glass needs it. The lid is a spring assisted clamshell, so even at this size it feels surprisingly light to open and close. The whole kiln sits on an integrated stand with casters, putting the floor at a comfortable 34" loading height. You can load standing up, or assemble your piece right at the kiln. The controller mounts separately on the side or wall at eye level, so you're not bending down to program firings either.
The floor is built from individual uncemented kiln bricks, so if a brick ever gets damaged you swap it out instead of replacing the whole floor. Maxes out at 1700°F, plenty of headroom for full fuse, tack fuse, slumping, draping, and casting work.
Included with every order
Integrated stand with casters, 25" x 37" rigid fiber shelf, 15" x 21" clay shelf, 8 short kiln posts, a bag of kiln wash, 2 year limited warranty through Jen-Ken, and free freight shipping to the US Lower 48.
Who Is This Kiln For?
The ProFusion 38 Deep is built for a specific kind of artist. Here's how to tell if that's you.
✓ Artists doing deep slumping and draping work
If you work with deeper molds and taller drape forms, the 16" depth gives you the vertical headroom that a standard fusing kiln just doesn't have.
✓ Cast glass artists at small to medium scale
Casting work often needs vertical room for molds, pour spouts, and reservoirs. 16" depth gives you serious working room without committing to a 52" kiln.
✓ Production glass fusers who also slump
Fast fiber firing for production work plus the depth to handle deeper slumping in the same kiln. Two firings a day for flat work, deep slumping when you need it, all in one kiln.
✓ Glass teaching studios with dimensional work
If your students work in both flat fusing and dimensional slump and drape pieces, the extra depth means one kiln supports everything they'll learn. Cools to near room temperature overnight so finished work is ready by the next class.
You'll pick your digital controller at checkout. The Orton AutoFire 12 Key gives you reliable programmable firings with up to 4 custom programs. The AutoFire Slide adds a touchscreen and stores 35 firing schedules, a serious benefit when you're switching between fusing, slumping, and casting programs. And the TAP Smart Controller lets you run firings from your phone or tablet over Wi Fi, with virtually unlimited program storage.
