A 27" Square Glass Kiln With Top and Side Firing. Even Heat, Beautiful Results.

The Jen-Ken AFG JK2 (also called the JK² or JK Squared) is a square-format glass kiln with a feature that makes a real difference in how your work fires: top and side heating elements. Most glass kilns fire only from the top, which works fine for thin work but can leave thicker pieces or full shelves with subtle temperature differences across the load. With elements firing from above and from the sides, the JK2 surrounds your work with heat for more even results, edge to edge.

The interior is 27" x 27" x 11", giving you 4.5 cubic feet of working space. That's a generous square footprint, ideal for plates, panels, tiles, and other roughly square work that wastes space in a rectangular kiln. The 11" of depth is enough for standard slumping molds and most fusing work without paying for vertical room you don't need.

It maxes out at 1700°F, the right ceiling for full fuse, tack fuse, slumping, and draping. The JK2 ships standard with the Orton AutoFire 12-Key controller, a dependable P-I-D controller with 4 custom programs and power-loss recovery. If you want more storage or remote control, upgrade at checkout to the TAP Smart Touchscreen with Wi-Fi or the Orton AutoFire Slide.

Included with every order

Stationary stand built for the kiln's weight and shape, Orton AutoFire 12-Key controller, and the manual. Add the furniture kit at checkout for a 24" full shelf, four 1" posts, and kiln wash.

Who Is This Kiln For?

The JK2 is built for glass artists who want even heat distribution and a square working footprint. Here's how to tell if that's you.

✓ Artists working on square or near-square pieces

If your work is plates, tiles, panels, or square platters, a square kiln stops wasting the corners you'd lose in a rectangular layout. 27" x 27" is a sweet spot for this kind of work.

✓ Fusers who want more even heat distribution

Top and side firing surrounds your work with heat instead of pushing it down from above. This is especially noticeable on thicker fused pieces, full loads, and work near the edges of the shelf.

✓ Production fusers with consistent piece sizes

If you're firing batches of similar pieces and need them to all come out the same, even heat is everything. The JK2 takes one of the most common sources of variation off the table.

✓ Studios stepping up from a small kiln

4.5 cubic feet is a real production jump from a tabletop or small fusing kiln, without going all the way to the 7+ cubic foot range. A solid first or second studio kiln.

For a kiln of this size, the Solid State Relay (SSR) is a worthwhile upgrade. It gives you tighter temperature control, longer element life, and quieter cycling, and tends to outlast the standard mechanical relay by a wide margin. If you ever plan to open the lid during a firing, the Power Interrupt Switch adds a meaningful layer of safety by cutting power to the elements whenever the lid is open.
