A Lower Profile Studio Kiln That's Easy on Your Back
If you've ever finished loading a deep kiln and felt it in your shoulders the next day, the Jen-Ken AF 2822 3" is going to feel like a nice change. At 22" deep, you can actually reach the bottom without climbing or contorting. The 28" wide chamber still gives you room for your biggest pieces, but the lower profile makes loading and unloading way more comfortable, especially when you're firing several times a week.
With 8 cubic feet of capacity, it's a sweet spot for working potters, classroom programs, and small production studios. Plenty of room for dinnerware sets, vessels, glaze loads, and full shelves of student work, without being so big that you're waiting to fill it before firing.
It's built with 3" firebrick walls that hold heat well and keep your firings efficient. Your elements don't have to overwork, your temperatures stay even across the chamber, and you'll get more consistent results from one firing to the next. That's the kind of stuff that adds up to years of extra kiln life.
The AF 2822 fires up to 2300°F (Cone 8), which makes it a great fit for earthenware, low and mid fire stoneware, glaze work, and your everyday bisque firings. It runs on 240V at 45 amps, 10,800 watts.
Heads up: direct wired
This kiln is direct wired, meaning it doesn't come with a plug. You'll need a licensed electrician to wire it directly to your panel. If you'd prefer a plug in version, give us a call and we can point you to the AF 2822 Mega Coil or AF 2829 instead.
Included with every order
A heavy duty stand sized for this kiln, the full operator manual, a solid state relay (SSR) for tighter temperature control and longer element life, a 2 year limited warranty through Jen-Ken, and free freight shipping to the US Lower 48.
You'll pick your digital controller at checkout. The Orton AutoFire 3 Key is a great no frills option if you only fire occasionally. The Orton AutoFire 12 Key steps things up with more programming flexibility. The AutoFire Slide adds a touchscreen interface. And the TAP Smart Controller lets you run the whole thing from your phone or tablet over Wi Fi. Not sure which fits your workflow? That's exactly the kind of thing we can help with.
