Two Firings a Day. Yes, Really.
If you're fusing glass on a clay shelf, you've already accepted that the kiln has to drag the shelf up to temperature with it. That means slower ramps, longer cooldowns, and basically one firing a day if you're lucky. The Jen-Ken ProFusion 38 rewrites that. Drop the included 25" x 37" rigid fiber shelf onto the floor of the kiln and you've got an all fiber interior, top to bottom. The kiln can heat fast, cool fast, and turn around for a second firing the same day.
That's a real production advantage for busy studios. And for teaching studios, the kiln is basically back to room temperature by the next morning. No more "we'll see it next class."
Inside, you've got 26" x 36" x 14" of working space, which is big enough for serious work. The elements are encased in quartz tubes and hang just below the lid to give you maximum radiant heat right where the glass needs it. The lid itself is a spring assisted clamshell, so even though it's a big kiln, it feels surprisingly light to open and close.
The whole thing sits on an integrated stand with casters, putting the floor at a comfortable 34" high. You can load the kiln standing up, or honestly just assemble your piece right at the kiln without leaning over. The controller mounts separately on the side or wall at eye level, so you're not bending down to program firings either. Small details, but they add up when you're firing every day.
One more thoughtful touch: the floor is built from individual kiln bricks that aren't cemented together. If a brick ever gets damaged, you swap it out instead of replacing the whole floor. Maxes out at 1700°F, plenty of headroom for full fuse, tack fuse, slumping, draping, and casting work.
Who Is This Kiln For?
The ProFusion 38 is built for a specific kind of artist. Here's how to tell if that's you.
✓ Production glass fusers
If you're making to sell and want to run multiple firings a day, the fiber shelf setup is a real game changer for turnaround time.
✓ Glass teaching studios and classrooms
The kiln cools to near room temperature by the next morning, so students actually see finished work at the next class. The 34" loading height is also great for accessibility.
✓ Artists working on larger fused or slumped pieces
The 26" x 36" interior gives you room for platters, panels, and sculptural work that won't fit in smaller table top fusing kilns.
✓ Anyone tired of fighting their kiln
The spring assisted lid, eye level controller, and caster stand make daily firings way easier on your body. If you've ever finished a load and felt it in your back, you'll appreciate the ergonomics.
Probably not the right kiln if:
✗ You're a ceramicist or potter
The ProFusion tops out at 1700°F, way below ceramic firing temperatures. You'll want one of our Jen-Ken AF or Mega Coil ceramic kilns instead.
✗ You only fuse occasionally for fun
This is a real working studio kiln. If you fuse once a month as a hobby, a smaller table top fusing kiln will save you money and floor space.
✗ You're tight on studio space
Exterior footprint is 47" W x 48" L x 49.5" H, and the clamshell lid needs vertical clearance to open. Measure your space before ordering.
Included with every order
Integrated stand with casters, 25" x 37" rigid fiber shelf, 15" x 21" clay shelf, 8 short kiln posts, a bag of kiln wash, 2 year limited warranty through Jen-Ken, and free freight shipping to the US Lower 48.
You'll pick your digital controller at checkout. The Orton AutoFire 12 Key gives you reliable programmable firings with up to 4 custom programs. The AutoFire Slide adds a touchscreen and stores 35 firing schedules, which is a serious benefit if you do a lot of different glass work. And the TAP Smart Controller lets you run firings from your phone or tablet over Wi Fi, with virtually unlimited program storage.
