The Home Studio Hybrid: Ceramics and Glass in a Compact Footprint

The Jen-Ken Ceram-A-Glass 1815 is the most accessible kiln in our hybrid Ceram-A-Glass series. Built for the artist who works in both ceramics and glass but doesn't want to commit floor space, money, or major electrical to a full size studio kiln. The interior is 18" wide by 15" deep with 2.84 cubic feet of capacity, sized right for home studios, jewelry makers, and hobbyists exploring both disciplines.

In glass mode, the kiln tops out at 1700°F. The top elements give the glass a uniform blast of radiant heat from above, while some of the side coils help bring the kiln to temperature evenly. That's exactly the heating pattern glass needs for full fuse, slumping, draping, and small casting work.

In ceramic mode, the kiln reaches 2150°F, which covers cone 6 mid fire stoneware, all your low fire work, glaze firings, and bisque. The side coils carry the load like a traditional ceramic kiln to give you the even chamber heat ceramics need.

What makes the 1815 especially home studio friendly is the 30 amp electrical draw. That's the lowest in the Ceram-A-Glass line, and friendlier on residential panels than the bigger 36 to 45 amp models. Uses a NEMA 6-30 plug, 6,240 watts. At only 150 pounds, this is also the most manageable hybrid for setup and positioning.

Heads up: NEMA 6-30 plug, not NEMA 6-50

This kiln uses a NEMA 6-30 plug, which is a 240V 30 amp outlet. It's less common than the NEMA 6-50 most large kilns use. Some studios already have one (sometimes leftover from older electric dryers), but if you don't, your electrician can install a NEMA 6-30 line easily. Give us a call before you order if you want to confirm your setup works.

Need 2300°F? Inquire before ordering

The Ceram-A-Glass 1815 can be ordered with a manual bypass option that lets it reach 2300°F (cone 8). This is a build option, not something you can switch on later. If you need cone 8 capability, give us a call before you order so we can spec the right configuration for your studio.

Who Is This Kiln For?

The Ceram-A-Glass 1815 is built for a specific kind of artist. Here's how to tell if that's you.

✓ Home studio artists working in both ceramics and glass

If your work crosses both disciplines, this is the most accessible way to do both at home without two separate kilns and two separate electrical setups.

✓ Studios with tight electrical budgets

30 amps is the friendliest amp draw in the Ceram-A-Glass line, often the difference between starting your hybrid studio now or waiting on a panel upgrade.

✓ Jewelry makers and small batch artists

2.84 cu ft is the right size for batches of pendants, beads, small vessels, fused jewelry components, and small ceramic pieces. Big enough to be useful, small enough to fit anywhere.

✓ Artists exploring whether hybrid is right for them

If you're not sure whether you want to commit to a larger hybrid kiln, this is the entry point that still delivers full Ceram-A-Glass dual mode capability at home studio scale.

You'll pick your digital controller at checkout. The Orton AutoFire 12 Key handles both ceramic cone programs and custom glass schedules. The AutoFire Slide adds a touchscreen and stores 35 firing schedules, which is great when you're switching between ceramic and glass programs often. And the TAP Smart Controller with Wi Fi lets you run firings from your phone or tablet, with virtually unlimited program storage for both disciplines.

Included with every order

A heavy duty stand sized for this kiln, the full operator manual, kiln wash to get you started, a 2 year limited warranty through Jen-Ken, and free freight shipping to the US Lower 48.
